Opening hours
Times and dates of opening are provisisonal and may be subject to change, so the most reliable source of information is the library website. Simply visit www.tcd.ie/library/opening-hours
NB: The Library is now open on Sunday in Hilary Term
The different sources of books
Undergraduate Lending Collection- LEN in BLU Libararies - four week or one week (with yellow spot) loan
- S-LE in the Hamilton Library - one week loan
- SJ in the John Stearne Medical Library - one week loan
- MUS LEN in the Ussher Library - one week loan
These items are in storrage, either on campus or in the Santry Book repository, and must be requested using an Automated Stacks Request (ASR) or Call Slip
Short Loan (Counter Reserve) Collection
These items are located by the Service Councters of the Berkely Hamilton and John Stearne Medical Libriaries. They may not be removed from the reading rooms of the library in which they are located.
People who are there to help
The Duty Libarian service is an enquiry or reference desk service operated by a team of librarians. Their main functions include
- Reference assistance
- Guidance on the use of information resources (catalogues, databases and electronic journals)
- Information on services offered by the Library (use record assistance and referrals to specialist staff)
- Assistance locating material in the Library and beyond (using other libraries, Inter-Library Loans)
Group study rooms
Group study rooms are available during Library opening hours to registered students in groups of two or more who wish to work together on projects and assigmnets. One signature and ID number required per booking. For more information, visit the library website.
Berkeley Basement - only one 2 hour slot may be booked per group per day
Hamilton; Lower level, adjacent to Photocopying Room - only one 2 hour slot may be booked per group, per day
John Stearne Medical Library, to the right of libary entrance - only 2 consecutive hours may be booked per group, groups may not gain additional slots by each group member signing. However, a group may extend their booking if the room is still free after their session
fines
Students are charged fines for overdue items to encourage their return on time.
Standard Loans - €0.50 per item, per day - this increases to €1 per day after 2 weeks
Short Loan (Counter Reserve) Collection Items - €0.25 per item, per hour
Renewing loans
- Total fines must not exceed €10
- The book can't be reserved by another reader
- The book must be less than a week overdue
lost items
All readers are fined when an item is lost, at a rate of the price of the irem plus an administration charge of €50. Readers should not obtain a replacement copy themselves. Until the Library is notified, lost overdue books will incur late fines. Contact the Counter Supervisor at a Service Counter to arrange payment.
off campus access
Access is available to licensed electronic resources (books, databases and journals) to regustered students and staff, irrespective of where they are located. Off campus access to electronic resources is not available to visiting readers, who may only use these resources in the library. College members linking to an e-resource from outside Trinity College Dublin Campus locations will be directed to a secure login page to authenticate with their College username and network login password.
There are various ways to access licened electronic resources remotely.
